Lisa Amundsen, our stake R.S. Pres. sent me this quote and I loved it so much I wanted to share...

more a lifestyle than a task

Did any of you see the article, "Visiting teaching is a way of life" that just came out in Mormon Times? My mom called to tell me about it (since, I really don't read the newspaper all that much...). I thought I'd share a bit with you.

Sister Beck (general R.S. President) says we need to learn to minister as well as teach for visiting teaching. I found her perspective amazingly fresh and "real" sounding...what about you all? Can you relate to what she says?

In essence, she (Sister Beck) continued, visiting teachers have those two major responsibilities: to teach and to minister. Most women in the Church understand the teaching part. Visiting a sister with a lesson each month "is the teaching, but it is not always ministering."

Sometimes, instead of a visit, a sister needs an extra meal or someone to take her children for an hour. Sometimes a sister needs a flower, a note or a phone call or an invitation to go to a social event. Sometimes a sister needs "somebody just knowing her family has the flu."

Maybe in January we can do as much ministering as teaching! Sometimes ministering is harder because we really need to know our sisters to know if they need a meal or note...or something completely different. If you're not sure what your sisters need, just pray about it. The answer will come!

A few weeks ago we had a lesson on visiting teaching...remember what our ward goals are??

1-Pray for your sisters, your companion and yourself.

2-Do your visiting teaching.

3-Make one new friend in the ward.

I was over at Alyssa's apt. yesterday and noticed she had her goals up on her fridge...What a great idea!! Do any of you have other ways to keep these at the front of your thoughts??
