Help Needed

Update: The Pease are all moved out of their apartment. However, they still need help cleaning Tomorrow morning (Saturday, February 6th) around 8 am (and most of the day). They will appreciate any time and help you can give them!

The Peases are moving across the 800 court the first week of Feb. Alyssa is hoping someone would be willing to watch her kids for even a half hour on Wednesday Feb 3 and/or Thursday Feb 4 so she can pack. They also hope to have some people help them clean on Friday Feb 5 starting at 1 p.m. If you're willing to help, please call her (587-5126) or leave a comment here.

Love This Thought

Lisa Amundsen, our stake R.S. Pres. sent me this quote and I loved it so much I wanted to share...

Elder Bruce R. McConkie has so eloquently taught us that service is essential to salvation. I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do. Progress is not created by contented people. It is up to us, you and me, to be uncomfortable in complacency, to refrain from being spectators, and to be players in the game of life. The Lord has chosen His people to perform a mighty work. Our home teaching, our visiting teaching should be more than going; it should be doing with Christian love. It can be done; you can each do your portion of the work because you desire it. -- Russell C. Taylor, “The Joy of Service,” Ensign, Nov 1984, 23

more a lifestyle than a task

Did any of you see the article, "Visiting teaching is a way of life" that just came out in Mormon Times? My mom called to tell me about it (since, I really don't read the newspaper all that much...). I thought I'd share a bit with you.

Sister Beck (general R.S. President) says we need to learn to minister as well as teach for visiting teaching. I found her perspective amazingly fresh and "real" sounding...what about you all? Can you relate to what she says?

In essence, she (Sister Beck) continued, visiting teachers have those two major responsibilities: to teach and to minister. Most women in the Church understand the teaching part. Visiting a sister with a lesson each month "is the teaching, but it is not always ministering."

Sometimes, instead of a visit, a sister needs an extra meal or someone to take her children for an hour. Sometimes a sister needs a flower, a note or a phone call or an invitation to go to a social event. Sometimes a sister needs "somebody just knowing her family has the flu."

Read the rest of the article here.

Maybe in January we can do as much ministering as teaching! Sometimes ministering is harder because we really need to know our sisters to know if they need a meal or note...or something completely different. If you're not sure what your sisters need, just pray about it. The answer will come!

When we're helping we're happy...

Here are a few options to help out our very own ward members:
  • Help the Brimley's move on Friday: One load at 8:30 a.m., another load at 3 p.m. Cleaning will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. Apt. 252. phone:(801)585-4670
  • Help Stephanie Craven and watch her kids, Jayci (age 3) and Tag (8 months). Stephanie needs a sitter every Friday this semester from 8a.m. to 1p.m. She is willing to trade babysitting. Phone: 801-831-9029
  • Help Angela Winkler--She wants to know if anyone would be willing to watch Jaylee while she goes to an institute class and she'll do the same for you if you want to take one. CORRECTED Phone:585-4743
If you're willing to help with any of these, please leave a comment here or contact the person directly!

Another opportunity to give...

Veronica G. is helping a friend who is volunteering for the Festival of Trees, which raises money for Primary Children's Medical Center. You can help by volunteering at the festival (Dec. 2-5) or by donating handmade gifts to be sold there. Christmas crafts are strongly encouraged. If you're making something in the next couple weeks, Veronica's friend suggests you can just make two of them, one for you and one for the Festival of Trees. If you are interested in helping, send Veronica an email to: danvero [at] gmail.com.

Family photo...check! Helping a sister in need...check!

A sister in our Stake adopted a baby from Africa a few years ago and just barely had a baby of her own. She then found out that her adopted child's birth mother is having another baby and wants her to take the baby! So she is trying to raise enough money by taking family portraits--lucky for us she's really talented (her blog is here) and is offering a majorly good rate. If you're interested her contact information is below.
